THE AREA
The Garrotxa Nature Park is situated in the province of Girona in the northeast of Catalonia. This outstanding area is the most well conserved volcanic region on the Iberian Peninsula with the inactive, but not extinct volcanoes, having left behind an exceptional scenery unseen in any other part of the country. In 1982 the Catalan government declared the zone an Officially Protected Area.
DESCRIPTION OF THE TOUR
We will leave the bustling, cosmopolitan city of Barcelona behinds us and head to one of the most magical and peaceful parts of Catalonia. This route is an enjoyable and interesting look at a range of natural ecosystems and rich cultural heritage.
We will walk through a magnificent beech forest and follow the path up to a grassy crater where we will stop to rest before continuing on to the youngest and biggest of the 40 volcanoes in the Nature Park.
After the walk we will sample some of the local gastronomy, ‘volcanic cuisine’.
After lunch, We will move on to Besalú, a beautifully well preserved medieval village declared a site of National Historic and Artistic Interest. You can choose between a guided tour of the village with our guide, exploring on your own or simply enjoying a refreshment on one of the sunny terrace cafes and observing the daily life of the locals.

El Parque Natural de la Zona Volcánica de la Garrotxa está situado en la provincia de Girona, al noreste de Catalunya, y en el corazón de la comarca de la Garrotxa.
Al ser la zona volcánica mejor conservada de toda la Península Ibérica y una de las más representativas de la Europa continental se ha convertido, sin lugar a dudas, en un espacio muy singular en Catalunya. Los volcanes, inactivos pero no extinguidos, han dejado un paisaje excepcional que no se repite en ningún otro lugar de nuestro país. Por ello, en el año 1982 fue declarado espacio protegido por la Generalitat de Catalunya.

Dejaremos atrás la cosmopolita ciudad de Barcelona para ir a caminar por uno de los paisajes más curiosos y mágicos de Catalunya. Se trata de una ruta muy entretenida e interesante por la diversidad de ecosistemas y el rico patrimonio cultural que nos iremos encontrando.
Atravesaremos un precioso bosque de hayas antes de subir hasta el cráter de un volcán, lugar ideal para descansar y reponer fuerzas, y seguir la ruta hasta el volcán más joven y más grande de los 40 existentes en el Parque Natural.
Al finalizar la ruta de senderismo, degustaremos la típica gastronomía local: la “comida volcánica”, en un restaurante situado entre los volcanes.
Después de comer iremos a Besalú, pueblo medieval declarado lugar de interés nacional histórico artístico por su extraordinaria belleza y buen estado de conservación. Podrás elegir entre visitar el pueblo siguiendo a nuestro guía, descubrirlo por tu cuenta o simplemente disfrutar de un refresco mientras contemplas el paisaje y la vida cotidiana de sus pobladores desde una de sus soleadas terrazas.
